I need to get back to my book this week.  It’s been in the glove compartment for the whole trip.  Needless to say, I didn’t have much desire to read anything while gone.  But if a book about being happy & finding the good side of things was ever more relevant in my life - it’s right fucking now.

I’m Officially Proofreading My Book

I renamed it Greatest Hits, because it fit, and it’s ironic.  I have a new cover designed, & it’s a pretty good idea.  I renamed it because all the chapters are song titles (which you cannot copyright, so I’m good there).  It’s ironic because people would think “greatest hits” would indicate the best I had to offer, but that’s not the case.  It’s the best & the worst.  But they are big hits in my life - the things that defined me in the book.

It’s like a heart monitor.  The line jumps above & below the center, but as long as it’s going, it always shows life happening.

PS  I have to say, I’m a pretty decent writer.  I always had confidence that I can write well when I really put my pen to paper.

I’m still debating on the font & size to use inside, although TradeGothic is in the top three right now.

Another few shots of my Umbra Conceal bookshelf. You can see in picture 3, that there are two small notches that hold the bottom cover of a book. You put the shelf itself inside the book, close the book, then stack the other books on top.  Ergo - the shelf disappears.  The shelves come in small & large (this is a large, hence the larger RENT book on bottom - I should have gotten the smaller one to fit a regular sized book), and are made of a powder coated steel that holds up to 20lbs (the small holds up to 15lbs).  Two screws are included (but I think they need mollys included to just be extra sure that thing doesn’t come out of the wall).

Frankly, it’d be pretty awesome to have a whole wall of these.  Ahhh, let the design ideas flow forth!

Casey & I are reading Goldie Hawn’s autobiography together.

Chosen by a panel of independent judges made up of Discover alumni and other notable writers, the six finalists for the Discover Great New Writers Award represent the best of what our bookseller selection committee read last year.

Each of the first place, second place, and third place winners received a check for $10,000, $5,000, or $2,500, respectively….

While he’s written many other things, Gregory Maguire’s books based on popular fairy tales (essentially these are their back stories) are the best ones.

  • Confessions Of An Ugly Stepsister is based on Cinderella (but who is the ugly stepsister in question?  HMMM!)  It leads up to the point of the ball…and the happenstance is quite the situation.  Not your usual fairy tale fare.
  • Mirror Mirror is based on Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs
  • Lost is based on A Christmas Carol, but it’s not a retelling; the protagonist is a distant cousin of E. Scrooge.  Unlike other Maguire books in this genre, Lost is set in the real world.

Note: The Next Queen Of Heaven is not a book based on a fairy tale.

Yackle got her due! - Finally finished this one. Tougher read, but the last scenes are just fantastic!

God I hope they make these into a movie series.  And do it RIGHT!

PS  I want a transparent glass cat as a pet…er…Cat, that is.  :-)
